Installing Solo - Macintosh

-----------------------------------

Solo is installed using the Axon Installer.

To run the Installer, double-click the appropriate installer icon.

You have the choice of either the "Install Solo 68K" (Classic Macintosh) or "Install Solo PPC" (Power Macintosh) versions.

Once the installer has finished you are ready to use Solo.

---------------------------

Before Starting Solo ...

---------------------------

In order for some features to function properly, Solo expects that certain parts of the computer system have been setup properly. By checking your computer's setup immediately after installing Solo you insure that these features will work correctly from your very first Solo work session.

Control Panel Requirements:

Solo documents and pages are time stamped so they can be easily shared with others. To do this properly your computer's clock must be set correctly.

- Check that your date and time are set correctly using the Date & Time Control Panel.

- Check that your location is set correctly using the Map Control Panel.

Font Requirements:

Solo requires the Wingdings font for displaying data point markers (sprites) in some charts.

On the Macintosh - The Axon Template File shipped with Solo uses Helvetica and Times fonts.

Under Windows - The Axon Template File shipped with Solo can use the Arial, Helvetica, Times and Times New Roman fonts.

About The Axon Installer ...

----------------------------------

When updating, the Installer selectively replaces Solo files leaving all user documents untouched. It can be run from diskettes, a hard disk or across a network. It can also update copies of Solo located on locked volumes. The installation process can be customized to include customer files such as Template Files (contact Axon Technical Support for details).

When you click the OK button in the Installer's greeting dialog box, the Installer scans all mounted volumes for copies of Solo. If it finds a match, it automatically replaces the older file. If it finds more than one copy of a file, it lists the matching files and you are asked to select which copy of Solo should be replaced.

If after scanning the hard disk, the Installer does not find a copy of Solo, the update installation is automatically cancelled.

To create a diskette based installation use the instructions below:

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Creating A Diskette Based Installation with this Update

-------------------------------------------------------------------

This update for the Macintosh is installed on 2 diskettes.

This has been accomplished by breaking the install archives into modules and by placing specific modules on specific disks.

Name the individual diskettes as indicated and copy the contents as listed to each diskette for the appropriate version.

Diskette Name: Disk 1

Contents: 4 components

- Install Solo (either 68K or PPC as appropriate)

- Install - READ ME (a copy of this file)

- Simple Text program

- Solo 4.x.x XXX .cpt.2

(XXX is either the 68K or PPC version as appropriate)

Diskette Name: Disk 2

Contents: 1 component

- Solo 4.x.x XXX .cpt.1

(XXX is either the 68K or PPC version as appropriate)

Once you have created the diskettes lock them.

To Install:

Insert "Disk 1" and double-click the "Install Solo XXX" icon and follow the instructions as prompted by the installer program.

To create a network installation use the instructions below:

-----------------------------------------------------------

Creating A Network Installation with this Update

-----------------------------------------------------------

This Solo update can be used to update an individual machine or a number of machines by creating a network installation folder.

To run the Installer on a Macintosh network, place the "Solo 4.x.x (68K or PPC) Update" folder on your network server. Instruct your Solo users to mount the server volume and double-click the "Install Solo 68K or PPC" installation program in the folder. This will automatically update the user's copy of Solo on their hard disk.
